If glass fiber is mixed with textile staple fiber such as polyester, the ability of spunlaced entanglement can be enhanced. Glass fiber reinforced polyester composites can be produced by mixing glass fiber with low melting point polyester.

Using NGSN equipment, researchers from Auburn University found that Spunlaced geotextiles can be produced by needling and hot rolling. The researchers found that the pore size of geotextiles can be changed by changing the spunlace pressure and the time the web is exposed to the water needle. Pore size is the key index of geotextile, especially when it is used as sand filter to allow water to pass through and prevent soil movement. By prolonging the time when the web is under the action of water needle or increasing the pressure of water needle, the entanglement effect of water needle can be enhanced and the pore size of the fabric can be reduced. The pore size can be adjusted online without stopping, so as to improve the production speed, which is more flexible and simple than other processing technologies of geotextile.
